Don’t Waste Being New

You are only brand new on a team for a short, precious while.

Soon, you'll be enmeshed in the group's culture. This means, you're more likely to defend your collective decisions, even if flawed.

Plus, you'll grow to trust your colleagues, and so may lower your healthy skepticism of their ideas and opinions.

FACT: sometimes even great people have bad ideas.

It's all normal. But we can, and should, push hard against this natural bias of being captured.

One way is for the most senior folks to encourage the newest voices to speak up. Leverage the value of their newness. Stay present to biases and groupthink.

Be deeply honest together. Keep an open mind.
